Walking into a new church for the first time can feel a little intimidating—especially a house church. We want you to feel right at home the moment you arrive. Here is a quick look at what a typical Sunday morning looks like at Berea House of Prayer...
9:30 AM | Heart Preparation: About 30 minutes before our official start time, we take 10 to 15 minutes to gather in quiet prayer, intentionally preparing our hearts for worship and the Word. During this time, we usually play soft music to create a prayerful atmosphere.
9:45 AM | Fellowship Time: The quiet transitions into warm community. This is our time to catch up and ask how everyone's week went, talking about everything from life to the weather.
10:00 AM | Welcome & Prayer: We officially begin our service with church announcements, sharing personal prayer requests, and lifting them up together.
Our music is a thoughtful blend of classic hymns, time-tested choruses, and worshipful modern praise songs. We aren't "amped up" or loud; we focus on a heartfelt, sincere atmosphere. Typically, we will open up with a few upbeat, traditional hymns before transitioning into slower, intimate worship songs.
After worship, we dive deep into Scripture. Our Bible studies are taught verse-by-verse straight through the Bible. While our pastor leads the study, you may occasionally hear an insightful comment or context offered by pre-chosen members of the congregation.
Rooted in an Assemblies of God background, we deeply value the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our services. We do not hold so tightly to a bulletin or schedule that we miss what God is doing in the room. If the Spirit leads us to sing another song or to stop the service entirely to gather around and pray for a brother or sister going through a tough week, we gladly follow that prompting.
Because of our Biblical foundation, we also believe in the gifts of the Spirit, including tongues and interpretation. While this is not the singular focus of our services, it is a normal part of our Biblical worship, and we welcome the Holy Spirit to move decently and in order as Scripture outlines.
Every Sunday looks a little different as we conclude our time together. Our service typically ends in corporate prayer, which might look like an altar call, gathering in a circle to pray over one another individually, or our pastor leading the entire congregation in a closing prayer.
Come as you are, provided it is modest! Our family wears everything from business casual to Sunday best, and women generally wear longer dresses. Visitors, including women, are welcome in casual attire like jeans. We just ask that your clothing choices are not overly revealing or distracting, ensuring our focus stays on fellowship and worship.
We are a family-integrated church, which means children are welcome to stay with their parents throughout the service. We know that teaching children to participate in worship takes time and practice. If your little one needs a break or a quick correction, you are welcome to step outside with them at any time and slip back in whenever you're ready. We are here to support you and your family to grow in the Lord.
We do not collect tithes and offerings during our service. Instead, we have a giving box loacted on the table in the back of the sanctuary. Feel free to drop your tithes and offerings into this box. Our church supports several ministries around the nation and around the world. Since we have very little financial resources tied up in our building or salaries, virtually all givings go to these worthy ministries.
To help us stay completely focused on worship and fellowship, we choose not to serve coffee at our gatherings. We love the physical freedom to lift our hands and engage in worship without any distractions (or spills!). We invite you to grab your morning coffee before you arrive so that once you're here, your heart and hands are fully open to what the Lord has in store.
Berea House of Prayer is entirely animal-free, and we do not permit pets or service animals inside the building. Because we gather in a small home setting, this ensures a clean, distraction-free environment for everyone, particularly those with severe allergies. If you have a disability or require assistance during your visit, it is our deep privilege as a church family to serve you personally. Please reach out to us ahead of time or simply let us know when you arrive so we can accommodate your needs and help you feel right at home.
One of the beautiful things about being a house church is that we are completely free from the stiffness of a traditional church environment—after all, it’s our home! Our deepest desire is to show you true hospitality and make you feel right at home. Please don't worry about making a small mistake or feeling out of place; we are all growing in grace together. None of us are perfect, but we are all striving to walk like Christ. We would absolutely love to have you come, sit with us, and be a part of our fellowship this Sunday!
